Water Babies first came to life when a Midwest banker by the name of Dan Lauer passionately pursued his dream of developing a realistic doll inspired by the ones his sisters would make out of water balloons in the 1960s. After years of determination and hard work, he earned a patent on his water-filled dolls and is excited to share his creation with a new generation of young mommies. "There was nothing out there that came close to delivering on that magical feeling and satisfaction of holding a warm little baby in your arms," recalls Lauer. "As a parent, when I would fill the Water Babies for my daughters, I knew I was handing them a doll they would carry, snuggle and play in an old-fashioned manner." Water Babies come with their own bottle and easy-fill funnel. The funnel allows parents to fill the doll through a leak-resistant valve in the dolls back. The babies are available in two sizes (9-inch newborn and 13-inch Water Baby), and each size offers three ethnicities: Caucasian, African-American and Hispanic. Besides being a fun toy to play with, Water Babies will also help prepare children for the arrival of a new baby into the household. While teaching first-time big brothers and sisters the correct way to hold a newborn baby, moms, dads or grandparents can share stories with their children/grandchildren of what it was like to hold them when they were first born. I will be sure to include Water Babies on the wish list for my young granddaughter is expecting her first sibling in the New Year.
